CHANTILLY, VIRGINIA – November 11, 2010 – Home Buyer Publications (HBP) announced that its Old House Media Group, publishers of New Old House, Old-House Journal, Old-House Interiors, Arts & Crafts Homes, Early Homes, and The Design Center Sourcebook aquired The Historic Home Shows and The Designer Craftsmen Shows, the beloved and highly-respected events produced by Bob Goodrich of Goodrich Promotions.

General Manager, Laurie Sloan said, “We at Old House Media Group have been supporters and admirers of these shows for many years. When Bob Goodrich announced his retirement, we could not sit by and allow these events to fade away. We know from talking with many of Bob’s exhibitors and supporters that these shows have been an indispensible component of their success over the years. Continuing that tradition and the high quality of these shows is an exciting opportunity.”

Ms. Sloan went on to say, “The Designer Craftsmen and Historic Home shows are the perfect complement to our magazines and websites. The Old House Media Group has an audience of two million, from readers to online users to email newsletter subscribers and Old House Live attendees. Naturally, we will be inviting that audience to join the substantial following that already loves these shows.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be working closely with Bob to ensure a smooth transition. Rest assured, we will be keeping this show at the same high level of quality that previous and current exhibitors are used to. We’ve been producing The Log & Timber Home Shows around the country for 15 years, and have an excellent track record of well-run, attractive events specifically designed to introduce exhibitors to qualified consumers. Combining that with our extensive old-house audience and this show’s reputation seems like a no-brainer! We now have the unique ability to tap into enthusiasts in several specific, yet related niches. They all share a love of historic homes and quality products and now we have the perfect event for them.”

When asked how he felt about passing his decades-old event on to Home Buyer Publications, Bob Goodrich said, “I am confident these folks will carry on the tradition of my show, maintain the quality, and take them to a level that I could never achieve.”

CHANTILLY, VIRGINIA – August 24, 2010 – Home Buyer Publications (HBP) announced a name change for one of its publications. Country’s Best Log Homes will now be Country’s Best Cabins.

In announcing the change, HBP’s General Manager Laurie Sloan said, “‘Cabin’ is a state of mind. This magazine’s audience embraces a lifestyle. The word cabin evokes tradition, family, security, Americana. It embodies comfort and coziness.” Ms. Sloan went on to cite other important factors:

Research: HBP has conducted focus groups, newsstand tests, reader surveys and SEO research, indicating that the term cabin appeals to a broader audience interested in a lifestyle choice in a new home. Country’s Best Cabins will continue to feature accessible home features, how-to and practical information for new home buyers and homeowners.

Differentiation: HBP also publishes Log Home Living, the leading log home magazine for 27 years. “Opening up Country’s Best to the ‘cabins’ term further differentiates our two titles into complementary niche categories,” said Sloan.

Lifestyle: In an interesting paradox, the log home industry and related publications have avoided the term cabin promoting the term “log homes” to convey a more upscale, permanent residence. Many consumers, however, have consistently gravitated to the down-to-earth comfort of the term cabins. Sloan says, “With both of these titles in our mix, we can satisfy our dual audience of aspirational, discerning Log Home Living readers and hands-on, practical readers of Country’s Best. Demographically, these readers are nearly the same: highly educated with excellent incomes. But psychographically they are different. By having two distinct magazine voices, we can deliver information to each group in a way that speaks to them very personally.”

Home Buyer Publications comprises two categories of home magazines, events and online properties. The Log & Timber Group includes Log Home Living, Timber Home Living, Country’s Best Cabins, The Log & Timber Home Shows & Seminars, loghome.com and timberhomeliving.com. The Old House Media Group includes Old-House Journal, Old-House Interiors, Arts & Crafts Homes, Early Homes, New Old House, Old-House Live! events, and oldhouseonline.com.
